Baraja: "tHE TEAM kePT going AND COMPETED UNTIL THE END"
The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
Fernando Gómez Colomer, the player with the most appearances for Valencia CF, assessed the current situation at the club when attending the game against FC Barcelona at Mestalla. The legendary midfielder said that
"Valencia CF have a very good squad, with lots of depth. Even with the absences that the team have had, they've done well and responded. They've moved up in the standings, are still in the Copa del Rey and have also had a favourable draw, as well as qualifying for the Last 16 of the Champions League."
“There is everything still to play for. Now the most important part arrives, but they are getting players back," commented Gómez, who believes the support of the fans can help the team.
"The team need to have the ambition of going as far as possible in each competition, then we'll see how far they can get. If they compete well, the fans will be behind them."
He is also impressed by the promotion of VCF Academy players into the first team.
“What we have to do is make VCF Mestalla have players who deserve the opportunity. If there are, then you have to give them the chance. Once you do that, if they respond then you have a first team player. We have to work very well from the bottom up, and have players who deserve to be given the opportunity. It's working and the players have made the most of it."
